love love love!

I just found these RAD HAIR PICS and I am feeling super jazzed about a new style.
I have been trying desperately to grow out my bangs so that I can just tie it up out of my face once I am dealing with a squalling infant, but it's HARD.

Ack I just want to rock cool fun hair again!

(I found all of these through Creature Comforts)

HugaMonkey giveaway

I was just searching baby slings JUST NOW and came across HugaMonkey's website and blog and I am liking the look of things over there.

Right now they are having a give away for one of their pouch style slings and I am crossing my fingers that I can give one of these a try!

They look so SIMPLE.

Me likey.

(apparently you can use them with newborns and babies up to 30 lbs!)
I am planning to sling Sonny and I am coveting this sweet simple design right now!

Dangerous (and awesome)

Ninjabread Men.

I'm going to get me some of these.

I haven't made sugar cookies in a while, but I feel like Sonny (and Geoff) would enjoy these.

(I think I found them originally on ApartmentTherapy)

Baby Love

So I have started to think about what is going to go into our Sonny's room (we found out it's a BOY!) and this is a pretty sure bet.

Print available HERE

(we're not naming him Sonny, I'm just calling him that instead of "It" and "The Turd" Seems nicer.)

just...need...more...TIME!

ugh! I would really love it if Christmas was just a few days farther away.
That would give me JUST enough time to maybe get everything done.

I hope that everyone out there is having the most relaxed and wonderful of weekends this weekend, that Santa (or whoever) brings you exactly the right thing, and that you stuff yourselves silly with whatever your favorite holiday food is!

Merry Christmas, Happy Solstice(a bit late I know, but we actually had our first annual Solstice celebration at our house, it was lovely, and I'll tell you all about it. After this weekend) and Happy Holidays to all!

Pear Tree Market!

I am a little late in posting this, but if you are around Victoria tomorrow and have a chance to pop in, it's LOVELY.
FGI and Verbena have done an AMAZING job of decorating the space and the ladies who are selling are some of the nicest, coolest ladies I have ever met. Seriously.

I love them all.

We'll be there from 11-5 tomorrow!
Hope to see you there!

(and seriously how beautiful is that poster??)

For Baby

We have been pretty lucky so far in that we don't have to get too much Stuff for The Bun besides a crib and then the smaller incidentals. (like all the fun stuff for decorating that the wee one won't really appreciate yet!)

And I am determined to keep things on the reasonable and affordable side.
So.

Ikea, here we come!

This is the crib I intend to pick up in the new year...

The Sniglar.
Reasonably priced, adjustable mattress levels and one whole side comes off to make it become a toddler bed when the time comes.

Perhaps The Bun will sleep in here until kindergarten! (kidding, probably)

After the Wee one arrives

I have been thinking a lot about what I will do with myself once we have this baby. We're due at the end of April and I feel like that's a LONG time away. But I know better than to expect Time to give me any breaks. That bastard loves to just rush on by me regardless of how prepared I try to be for him.

And my studio is going to be the baby's room. So I am going to be taking a haitus from metal smithing while I get used to the idea of being a mother and let this new person settle in. My father in law, who frankly is quite possibly the GREATEST, has offered to create a space for me in the garage at the lake and I am SO unbelievably grateful to be able to have a space at all, let alone one where we spend a lot of time and where there is usually family around to babysit.

How did I get so lucky?

I am not sure but I am going to come up with something.

But until then, because I am sure that this won't be something that happens right away, I have been giving the idea some thought.

The idea of What the Heck I am going to do with myself until I am making jewellery again. That one.

Because I know that I am not always the most productive little jeweller out there, but I really do love it. It is something that makes me happy to be able to do and I always appreciate the time spent in my studio, once I get in there after procrastinating as long as I possibly can.

I am sure there is a clinical name for this.

ANYWAY. What I am getting at is that I have been thinking about drawing again, and I am pretty sure there will be some textile work in there too. I am not sure what yet, but Lena Corwin and Lotta Jansdottir are both incredibly inspiring to me and I love the idea of being able to provide beautiful things for my home.

And sewing. I'll be doing some of that too I think.

I've even been thinking of where I'll do this and I am afraid that the only place I can think of (and have already decorated in my head) is Geoff's study space.

I am hoping that he will be willing to share.

I haven't talked to him about this yet though. He just wrote his last exam for this semester today and I don't want to harass the poor man.

COVET!

Oh my dear lord this bag is AMAZING.

I have loved Moop for AGES now and it seems like her bags are just getting better all the time.

OhMyGodILoveThisBagSoMuch!!

I could carry so many diapers in it too. So maybe I actually need this bag.

So many things to save up for. And so many cravings to feed! who's gonna win??

When the time comes

I am going to order this lovely top...

(It was originally designed for breastfeeding and I like the idea of looking stylish when I've got a tiny human attached to me like a limpet.)

The designer, Replicca is Canadian too.
Got to love that.

(plus I love that everything in her shop looks luxurious and comfortable)

Covets

I've been coveting THESE for the longest time.

I bet that they would be really good for a new mama, slip on shoes, ready to go!
(plus I love that they donate a pair to a child for every pair sold. Incredible)

Maybe in the spring.

I have been spending WAAAY too much time on etsy looking at baby things. I'll put together a list to share soon. Now I have to eat breakfast and get dressed. And stay away from the computer for the rest of the day! I haven't even started my christmas gifts for this year yet! December is going to be INSANE.

The Bun.

Remember a little while back when I was posting really irregularly (similar to now in fact) and had no energy and have been basically off the radar for the last few months.
I was all, "I've got this bug that's keeping me down"?

Remember that?

Well.

This is why I've been so out of it.

18 weeks along now, 4 1/2 months!
We are really excited and happy to share that we are having a BABY!

Yup, I am going to be someone's mama.

I am still really tired, definitely better than the first trimester, but still sleepier than I had expected. I have heard that you get this amazing new energy back once you are out of those first 3 months, but I am still waiting.

(Do you hear that Wiggler? Mama needs some of that back. Don't you know that Christmas is right around the corner and I have to save some money to get ready for you?)

And this baby IS wiggly. Our midwives laugh about how busy this little bug will be keeping us.

The bump is starting to show, I can no longer pass it off as a big lunch, and I can feel the wriggles. It's amazing!

Another reason that posting has been light here is that I am so excited about all the amazing baby things that I have been discovering and I want to share them, but I wanted to sit on this for a bit so that it was just ours for a while. But this morning we had our 18 week ultrasound and everything looks good and it's getting harder to keep this excitement to myself.

So I apologize now if this turns into a baby bonanza for a bit, but I have to get it out of my system!

There is so much cute stuff out there and so many amazing Mama bloggers that I feel really lucky to be able to share in some of that.

(I might just post drivel about myself, but we should all be used to that by now surely?)

Snow (sick) day

I've been fighting off a head cold for the last three weeks and it's unfortunately settled right on my face.

Boo.

Plus it's snowing here again. I think that being out in the snowy bluster on Monday is what helped this sneaky cold to get a firm grip on me, so I've taken today off to sleep it off as much as possible.

I've got a couple of things to do around the house between naps (we have 1/4 of a roll of toilet paper left. Not good for a gal with a drippy nose drinking extra liquids!) So a very brief trip to the corner store is in order, plus I've got 2 rings to finish and mail off by the end of the week so I'll try to work on those too.

But I might just have to cozy on the couch with the dog for most of the day and get as much rest as I can.

We've got an early appointment tomorrow morning that I've been anxiously awaiting too, so an early bedtime is on the menu!

I hope that everyone out there is having a cozy November day wherever you are, stay warm and safe on those icy roads!

If we get married again...

I might have to wear something like this AMAZING Carolina Hererra gown that the lovely Miss Camilla Belle is wearing.

She looks so fresh and springy! D ring belt?? Love it!

name change

Yes we have been married for over a year.

But I still haven't changed my name on ANYTHING even though I took his last name.

So right now I am filling out a form for my new care card.

One step at a time people.

Oversized glasses LOVE

I have been really thinking about oversized eyeglasses in the last 6 months or so. Not in a I-have-to-go-and-find-designer-giant-frames-right-now kind of way, but more of a If-I-find-a-pair-of great-cheap-frames-I-might-get-my-prescription-put-in-them kind of way.

You know, like that.

And on a whim I googled "over sized eyeglasses" and among the many pictures of JLo and Lindsay Lohan in HUGE sunnies, was this article about Iris Apfel

She is a pretty cool lady my friends. Those glasses are Rocking My World right now.
And I can't believe that I have not discovered the Modcloth blog before now.

There goes my evening!

xox

This is so awesome.

I found it on Designsponge today and it's available here

Long hair!

Before I cut my hair off again I want to get it to something like this for a while first...

My hair might be too think to pull this off, but I bet some fancy layering technique could do something similar.

I'm currently growing out bangs, so it's living in a series of weird pinned up topknot these days. *sigh*

Soon!

I am sorry, it's NOVEMBER???

What the heck is going on here TIME?? I don't understand why you feel the need to race away from me like this.

I thought we were friends.

I really thought that we had a connection.

But it turns out that you are doing your damndest to get away from me at every opportunity!

This hurts.

Maybe I'll skip away from you for a while and see how you like it.

*sniff*

Oct 12, 2010

I don't want to jinx it

But I think that I might be returning to normal. I was able to walk home from the Ave (which is like 10 blocks) AND walk the dog after work today.

Serious improvement.

Also on the weekend I made up some cookies.

Carob spice cookies. Do you sense a theme here?

I'm going to try them again before I post the recipe or pictures though because I feel like they could be better.

Oh yeah baby, she's baking again!

Oct 9, 2010

New Fall flavor!

Okay so I am going to be trying something new here, since I CLEARLY can't get my self together enough to post regularly - due to thinking that I needed to be more professional and post more things jewellery related and less silly crap. But it's the silly crap that I love best, so I am going to try something.

I'm going to post little things here and there that are ENTIRELY silly, non jewellery related in the hopes of kick starting some inspiration for this wee blog here.

I am still dealing with the little bug that's been keeping me down lately (more on that later, as I am sure you'd all just LOVE to hear all about it) but I can see an end in sight. But because of it I have been monstrously UNproductive in my studio. sigh.

It will come back. It always does.

So ahem, something new, and fun!

Hot Carob with Cinnamon.

I picked up carob powder the other week when I was looking for cocoa powder and this afternoon is the first time I've tried anything with it.

I was feeling like a Hot Chocolate was in order, so I thought I'd give it a go.

And it ain't half bad!

Here's what you need:

A mug of milk (I used unsweetened almond milk, cuz' it's what I like)
2 teaspoons sweetener (I used agave, but sugar or honey would work well too I think)
a dash of vanilla

1 cinnamon stick
1 heaping teaspoon of carob powder.

Pour it all into a sauce pan and heat it up gently on the stovetop.
It's nuttier than a traditional hot chocolate, but mighty tasty!

And apparently carob is actually pretty good for you, so no guilt! Wee!

Now I am off to cull all of my Lucky magazines from the last 5 years to clear up some (much needed) bookshelf space.

I hope that everyone out there is having a lovely weekend (Happy Thanksgiving to you other Canucks out there!)

Sorry Turkeys.

Is it wrong

that I want an iPad, even though I don't need one?

Because I really want one.

(but I also really have to pay off my student loan. Boo.)

Oct 7, 2010

Oh Etsy.

I've been spending some time over there lately.

I may have ordered myself a little something.

I will confirm nor deny nothing.

(but I'll post pictures when it arrives because HOT DAMN it's cute)

Can I ask for etsy dollars for Christmas? Is that possible?
Someone must know this.

Here are a couple of my latest favorites...

2 new rings

I know it's been quiet around here lately. School is back in and I have been under the weather for the last few weeks and I am just starting to feel a little bit like myself again.

There hasn't been a lot of online time, mostly sleeping.

But I did manage to finish up these two beauties.

The silver one was a custom wedding band that I did up for the very lovely Miss Cooper.

And the gold woozy is a reworking of a piece I did back in art school that I came across while I was cleaning up my materials a little while back.
The first ever SOLID GOLD WOOZY RING!
Yikes!

Sexy!

Rainy Sunday

I'm still in my pyjamas and I am debating whether or not to actually get dressed at all. Geoff is at an over night bachelor party, our lovely friends are getting married next weekend and the dudes are all off on Cowichan River camping, doing dude things.

Norman is snuggled up in several blankets on the couch, the fireplace is on, and I have discovered the beauty of sweatpants.

Yes, I said that, you read it right. I bought myself some sweatpants last weekend.
And I am only a little bit embarrassed to say they are pretty awesome. I won't wear them out of the house of course. But they are pretty perfect for today.

Tonight we are going to Cirque Du Soleil with my sister and Mat. Should be fun.

As for the rest of the morning however, I am going to make a pot of tea, have a shower (maybe) and make a lovely little something for the soon to be Mrs. Bennett.

Slow Sundays are just the best.

Bangles for My Sister

My sister and I are only three days apart with our birthdays (plus three years) and this year she specially requested Bangles.

So that is what she got.

Happy Birthday Sweetie!
xo

Seals and Bears and Hot Springs oh My!

Here is the long over due third installment of our honey moon photos.
The trip to the Hot Springs was definitely a highlight.

On the way TO the Hot springs we saw a mama bear and her two cubs.
SO CUTE!

AND we saw some seals chilling out on some big rocks.

There was one big guy that just stared at us the whole time we rode by. All the others hopped into the water, but he was holding it down.

The boat ride itself was probably 30-40 minutes so we got to see lots of beautiful shoreline, and then once we got to the docks at the hotsprings side, we had a 30 minute walk up to the Hot Springs themselves.

A lot of the boards that make up the walkway to the springs have names carved into them. "Guava Jelly" was my particular fave.

The hot springs themselves were a series of 5 or 6 natural pools in the rocks (I didn't get too many pictures that didn't have tourists in them so no up close shots for you, sorry!)
They really are amazing and if you get a chance to go there sometime I highly recommend it.

The ride back, our Captain Pipo took us around the open ocean side so that we might get lucky and see some whales. And boy did we!
I didn't take any pictures because the moment was too amazing to run in for the camera, but we spent probably 15 minutes hanging out with a pod of 6 California Grey Whales that were I KID YOU NOT, only about 20 ft out from the boat most of the time.

It. Was. Incredible.

One of them swam under the boat and surfaced not even 10 feet away from us.
An experience I will NEVER forget.

Happy Squash Toys

OhMyGod these are SO CUTE! (the dinosaurs are my particular favorites, I was going to study palaeontology if I hadn't gotten into the art program all those years ago!)
I was just poking around etsy this morning while I ate breakfast and Happy Squash Toys are the featured seller today.

All hand made toys (and some using only natural finishes)

I have thought about what we would do when we have kids, and I DO NOT want kid crap everywhere, or loud plastic toys being tripped over everywhere you look. No thank you.
(I get that there will be stuff, but I don't want a lot of it, and I would like to encourage our families to only purchase handmade toys if possible)

These are just lovely.
Check out his shop here.

Last week!

Whoa last week was a hilarious write off for me.
My coworker at the clinic took her holidays so I was working double shifts all week and I don't know about you but I am a WRECK in the mornings! Usually I start at noon, so I've got a few hours in the morning to work here at home and get my shit together before braving the public!
Not so last week. Not so.

I think that I napped for 12 straight hours on Thursday night to make up for the early mornings! I was all "I'm just going to get a couple hours here before dinner" and then I woke up the next morning to my alarm. HA!

So Friday I was as fresh as a daisy!

I am back to regularly scheduled programming this week and I've got a couple of new projects on the go. One in particular that I will tell you about later, but I am pretty excited about it. That's all I'll say for now.

Back to the studio!

Aug 22, 2010

Long Beach

Long beach is exactly that, a Long Beach. It's sandy and wide and the waves there are incredible.
I don't surf, but there are lot of people there who do and it's amazing. There were high wave warnings when we were there the second day (all of our pictures are from the first day because on day two we didn't bring the camera, just our suits and some towels -we even left our shoes in the car on day two!)

It was a bit foggy when we were there, but it didn't really matter. It was just such a great trip that a little fog wasn't going to bum us out.

Something else we did on our trip was a puzzle! We set it up on the first night there and just picked away at it in the mornings and in the evenings. Nice quiet fun!

On our last morning in the cabin we tried really hard to finish it, but we had to leave early so we could pick up Norman that we had to very carefully take it apart and transport it in as many big pieces as we could to reassemble back at the lake.
Which we did.
And we finished it before we had to get back into town!
